As part of a group of French nuns sent to New France in 1639 to establish the Ursuline Order, Sainte Marie de l'Incarnation was crucial in the spread of Catholicism in New France.

She was a religious author and has been credited with founding the first girls' school in the New World.

Her feast day is April 30.
