September 8 annually celebrates The Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The date (marked on Roman Catholic Church, Byzantine Orthodox Church, and many Protestant Anglican & Lutheran calendars) falls exactly nine months after the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, which marks Mary's conception.

Most saints are remembered on the anniversary of their death (their "birthday to heaven"), but the Church celebrates the physical birth ("nativity") of only three people: Jesus on December 25, St.

John the Baptist on June 24, and the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8.

Christians view Mary's birth as the turning point that prepared the way for the arrival of Jesus Christ.

The Bible does not mention Mary's birth.

Instead, details about her parents, Sts.

Joachim and Anne, come from early Christian tradition and the apocryphal Protoevangelium of James.

Let’s explore the birth of Mary, mother of Jesus, using this same apocryphal text.
